New Bookseller Resource - A Database That Plugs Into Your Mobile Phone
The Book Trawler comes in four different formats. As easy to use as it is to text. Finds books that have already sold. Produces accurate, detailed results. Can be used to check whether a book can be resold for profit while you are in the buying process.
TILSHEAD, UK, November 30, 2008 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Bob Evans, owner of various websites in TILSHEAD, WILTS, UK has just launched a new product, specifically aimed at helping new or struggling booksellers. The product, known as The Book Trawler (http://thebooktrawler.com), is actually a frequently updated database of books that have sold in various places all over the internet. There are currently in excess of 7,000 entries, with more being added all the time.
What is so special about this database Evans was asked; "This database is different from every other one of its kind because it comes in the form of a mobile phone plugin. There are three formats: plain text, PDF and JAR (Java-based), with a fourth being a .EXE ebook that sits on the user's desktop and can be consulted offline. But the real advantage is in the mobile phone plugin, which can be consulted while the user is out and about buying books to resell later, hopefully at a profit."
Evans, an experienced bookseller himself, remembers how difficult it was when he first started. "I had to play everything 'by ear'," he says. "I had little idea if a book I was looking to buy had any potential when it came to reselling it for profit. I was in the dark. Consequently, I bought a lot of books on impulse, hoping they would sell. Many of them are still sitting on my shelves." He started building the desktop version to check other books that came into his possession and the idea of creating the mobile phone plugins was a natural development from this.
The Book Trawler enables the user to 'trawl' the database by keying in either a word or a phrase (for example, an author's name or a word from a title of a book). Evans says he has tested the PDF version on a Nokia N90 and N95, and actively uses the database on a Samsung SGH-J700.
"The Samsung produces very fast results when consulting the plain text version, but the PDF is a bit slower and the Java file had to be split in two due to the phone's size restrictions. We have a link on the web site listing older mobile phones which are Java-enabled. Most modern phones will not have a problem using the application."
The product is fresh on the market and Evans believes it really is unique, a one of a kind. "Where else can you find a database you can consult while you are in the process of buying?" he asks. "A new seller probably declines to buy dozens of books simply because he or she has no idea if they are worth reselling. That is where The Book Trawler can help. It is as easy to use as it is to type a text message."
About The Book Trawler
The Book Trawler is a manually built, maintained and regularly updated database/search engine. It includes data such as author name, book title, book condition, publishing year, price sold for, how many times sold and how many books a specific author has sold.
