BEA/LABBX reception on May 31, 2008
The Los Angeles Black Book Expo hosts a reception for Book Expo America participants of the African-American Pavilion inside the 626 Art Gallery in Downtown Los Angeles.

/Books News Articles/ - LOS ANGELES, CA, May 14, 2008 - As part of Book Expo America weekend, The Los Angeles Black Book Expo (LABBX) will host a reception on Saturday, May 31, 2008 inside the 626 Art Gallery in downtown Los Angeles.

The LABBX will showcase their activities for their upcoming event in June. Plans include a spoken word segment, a ⠘He Said, She Saidâ relationship forum with authors Pearl Jr. and Larry Ukali Johnson-Redd, as well as formal introductions by the LABBX founder, Itibari Zulu and current executive director Charles L. Chatmon. The LABBX will honor the founders of the African-American Pavilion at Book Expo America; Tony Rose, the publisher and CEO of the Amber Communications Group, Inc. and Adrienne Ingrum, the president of Adrienne Ingrum, LLC.

Chatmon believes the reception will bring about more awareness of both the L.A. Black Book Expo and the AA Pavilion for both parties. ⠜When I attended BEA five years ago, it was hard to find an entity supporting Black authors outside of a few independent publishers. What Mr. Rose and Ms. Ingrum has done is nothing short of fantastic. Our goal at the LABBX is to build strong literary relationships that transcends every border, every coast and genre.⠝ The current head of the LABBX also feels the reception would be a great start to kickoff the annual book expo moved back to its traditional date of June (the 14th) instead of late summer last year. ⠜We feel itâ s important to not only attract as many potential patrons as we can, but to reach our youth, the next generation of authors, writers and poets. Without them, our legacy of literature will not go on.⠝

The 626 Art Gallery is located on 626 South Spring Street in Los Angeles, California, 90014. The reception begins at 5:00 PM and will end at 8:00 PM. Admittance is free and all are invited.
